Knotless Privacy Policy
This policy covers the Knotless app for Android (package com.lunariastudios.knotless), published by Lunaria Studios.
In short
- Everything Knotless records stays on your phone.
- There is no account, no ads, no analytics, no crash reporting and no tracking.
- The app has no internet permission, so it cannot send your data anywhere.
- We, the developer, never receive any of your data. We have no server.
1. What the app stores on your phone
Knotless saves the following in its private storage on your device: a local database and Android app preferences.
App usage time. With Usage access turned on, Knotless reads app usage time from Android's usage statistics, on your phone, when it needs it. It uses this to show which apps you used most today in the app picker and to check which app is in front. Knotless does not save its own copy of this data.
No cloud backup. Android backup is turned off for Knotless, so this data is not copied to your Google account.
2. The Accessibility service
Knotless includes an Accessibility service. It is not an accessibility tool for people with disabilities. We use it for one job: to notice which app comes to the front.
When you open an app you chose to guard, the service:
- shows the Knotless pause on top of it;
- shows the time's-up screen when the time you picked runs out;
- briefly mutes media playback while a pause is on screen, then turns it back on;
- returns you to the home screen when you choose not to continue.
The service stays off until you agree to the explanation inside the app and then turn it on yourself in Android Settings. You can turn it off at any time in Settings → Accessibility.
3. Other permissions
- Usage access (optional): reads app usage time on your phone, as described above.
- Notifications: only a note if Android stops the guard, so you can turn it back on. The time's-up screen appears over the app, not as a notification.
- Run at startup: restarts the guard after your phone reboots.
- List of launchable apps: shows your apps in the picker. Knotless asks Android only for apps with a home-screen icon, not for every installed package.
4. What we do not do
- We do not collect, receive or store any of your data on a server.
- We do not share or sell data to anyone.
- We do not show ads or use advertising IDs.
- We do not use analytics, crash reporting or any other third-party software development kits (SDKs).
- We do not track you across apps or websites.
5. Third parties
None. Knotless contains no third-party services that receive data. Google Play handles downloading and updating the app under Google's own privacy policy. Android provides the usage statistics and Accessibility features on your phone.
6. Keeping and deleting your data
Your data stays on your phone until you delete it. Knots reset every morning; the history used for Patterns stays until you remove it.
To delete everything:
- open Android Settings → Apps → Knotless → Storage → Clear storage; or
- uninstall Knotless.
You can also take back any permission at any time in Android Settings.
7. Children
Knotless is not directed at children under 13. The app does not collect personal data from anyone, children included.
8. Your rights
Data protection laws such as the GDPR give you rights to access, correct and delete your personal data. Knotless keeps everything on your device, and we hold nothing about you, so you exercise these rights directly on your phone (see section 6). If you have a question, write to us.
9. Security
Your data is kept in Knotless's private app storage. Android's app sandbox, your screen lock and device encryption protect it. Other apps cannot read it.
10. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the effective date above. If Knotless ever needs to send any data off your phone, we will update this policy first and ask you in the app before it happens.
